Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Belladonna + opium is a combination medication available as a rectal suppository used to treat moderate to severe pain caused by ureteral spasms. It contains two active components: belladonna extract (containing atropine and scopolamine) which acts as an antispasmodic by relaxing the muscles in the ureter and bladder, and powdered opium (primarily containing morphine) which functions as a narcotic analgesic by affecting pain receptors in the brain. This medication is typically prescribed when other pain medications have not worked or cannot be tolerated.
