Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Waxodiz is an approved otic solution formulated to soften, disperse, and dissolve impacted earwax while providing relief from associated ear pain and discomfort. It is a fixed-dose combination containing benzocaine, chlorobutanol, paradichlorobenzene, and turpentine oil. Benzocaine acts as a local anesthetic by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels to temporarily numb the ear canal and reduce pain. Chlorobutanol serves as a preservative with mild antibacterial and antifungal properties. Paradichlorobenzene acts as a cerumenolytic agent to dissolve and break up hardened earwax, and turpentine oil acts as a lubricant to facilitate the natural movement and removal of the softened wax. Waxodiz is developed and marketed by The Centaur Company for the treatment of earwax accumulation and blockage.
