benzydamine + cetylpyridine chloride

Benzydamine + cetylpyridine chloride is a fixed-dose combination drug primarily available as lozenges or orosoluble tablets for the local treatment of sore throat and minor infections of the mouth and throat. Benzydamine is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with anti-inflammatory, analgesic, local anesthetic, and mild antiseptic properties. Its mechanism is distinct from typical NSAIDs: it inhibits proinflammatory cytokine synthesis (such as TNFα, IL-1β, and MCP-1) and modulates neuronal excitability. Cetylpyridine chloride (CPC) is a cationic quaternary ammonium compound with broad-spectrum antiseptic and antimicrobial action, rapid bactericidal effect on gram-positive bacteria, and fungicidal effect on yeasts. The combination provides symptomatic relief in upper respiratory tract infections, reducing throat pain quickly and for at least several hours after administration. It is indicated for relief of throat pain, gingivitis, stomatitis, and prevention/treatment of local oropharyngeal infections.
