Overview

Beta,beta-dimethylacrylalkannin, also known as Arnebin 1, is a naturally derived naphthoquinone compound extracted from the roots of several plants, including *Alkanna tinctoria*, *Lithospermum erythrorhizon*, and *Alkanna cappadocica*. It is a small molecule that exhibits a broad spectrum of biological activities, including wound healing, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antitumor properties. In oncology research, it has been identified as a potent inhibitor of Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor 1 (FGFR1), binding directly to the ATP-binding pocket to suppress downstream signaling pathways, induce cell cycle arrest, and promote apoptosis in colorectal cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma models. Additionally, the compound has shown inhibitory activity against Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase 1B (PTP1B), suggesting potential therapeutic utility in the treatment of diabetes. While it is widely used as a research chemical and has been incorporated into experimental topical formulations for skin regeneration, it is not currently an approved pharmaceutical drug.
