Overview

beta-hydroxy beta-methylbutyrate + bacillus coagulans GBI-30 is a combination dietary supplement comprised of beta-hydroxy beta-methylbutyrate (HMB), a metabolite of the amino acid leucine, and Bacillus coagulans GBI-30, 6086, a proprietary probiotic spore-forming bacterium also branded as GanedenBC30. HMB serves as an anti-catabolic agent that supports muscle protein synthesis, decreases muscle protein breakdown, and enhances muscle and membrane integrity, primarily by activating the mTOR signaling pathway and reducing activity in the ubiquitin–proteasome pathway. Bacillus coagulans GBI-30, 6086 is a resilient probiotic strain that survives GI transit, enhances protein digestion and absorption, and can improve gut health and modulate immune function. Combined, these ingredients show synergistic effects: coadministration has been shown in both animal and human studies (notably in military personnel under intense training) to more effectively attenuate inflammation, reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines (e.g., IL-1β, IL-2, IL-6, CX3CL1, TNF-α), maintain muscle integrity, and reduce fatigue during high physical stress compared to HMB alone. The combination is primarily indicated for support of muscle health, preservation during stress or aging, and possibly immune and gut health support[1][7][4][10].
