Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate + whey protein is a nutritional supplement combination developed by EAS Sports Nutrition (Abbott Laboratories) under the brand name EAS Recovery Protein. The formulation combines calcium beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate (HMB), a metabolite of the amino acid leucine, with whey protein and carbohydrates like isomaltulose. It is designed to enhance recovery from high-intensity resistance exercise, reduce exercise-induced muscle damage, and support the maintenance of muscle mass in conditions characterized by muscle wasting. Mechanistically, HMB stimulates the mTOR pathway to promote protein synthesis and inhibits the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway to reduce protein degradation, while whey protein provides the necessary amino acid building blocks for muscle repair.
