Overview

Ziclor is an ophthalmic gel formulation combining betamethasone, a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties, and chloramphenicol, a broad-spectrum antibiotic. Developed by Alfa Intes, Ziclor is approved in Italy for the treatment of non-purulent ophthalmic infections caused by chloramphenicol-sensitive microorganisms when the anti-inflammatory action of a corticosteroid is also required. Its primary indications include inflammation of the anterior segment of the eye (particularly post-operative), bacterial and allergic conjunctivitis, and acute iridocyclitis. The combination provides dual-action therapeutic benefits by reducing ocular swelling, redness, and discomfort while simultaneously treating or preventing bacterial infections.
