Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Saltopic is a topical combination therapy developed by Systopic Laboratories, consisting of the potent corticosteroid betamethasone and the keratolytic agent salicylic acid. It is approved for the treatment of various inflammatory, dry, and hyperkeratotic skin conditions, including psoriasis, eczema, atopic dermatitis, lichen planus, and ichthyosis. Betamethasone acts as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist, suppressing the release of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and cytokines to reduce redness, swelling, and itching. Salicylic acid acts as a keratolytic agent by softening keratin and promoting the shedding of dead skin cells, which helps clear scaly patches and enhances the penetration and absorption of betamethasone into the skin.
