Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Celestone Chondrose (more commonly known as Celestone Chronodose or Celestone Soluspan) is an injectable corticosteroid formulation containing a combination of betamethasone acetate and betamethasone sodium phosphate. Originally developed by Schering-Plough (now Merck Sharp & Dohme / Organon), it is a synthetic glucocorticoid that acts as an agonist on glucocorticoid receptors to exert potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects. The formulation combines highly soluble betamethasone sodium phosphate, which provides rapid anti-inflammatory action, with slightly soluble betamethasone acetate, which provides sustained activity. It is approved for the treatment of various acute and chronic inflammatory, allergic, and rheumatic disorders, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, bursitis, tendonitis, asthma, and dermatological conditions. In clinical trials, such as the SOOTHE heel pain trial led by Glen Whittaker, it has been evaluated as a local injection for the treatment of plantar heel pain and plantar fasciitis.
