Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Celestone Chronodose is an injectable corticosteroid formulation consisting of a mixture of betamethasone sodium phosphate and betamethasone acetate. As a synthetic glucocorticoid, betamethasone acts as a potent agonist of the glucocorticoid receptor, leading to significant anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects. The formulation is designed for dual-action: the highly soluble sodium phosphate component provides a rapid onset of action, while the less soluble acetate component provides sustained release for prolonged therapeutic activity. It is indicated for a wide range of inflammatory and allergic conditions, including asthma, arthritis, and severe dermatological disorders. Notably, it is used in obstetric care for the antepartum prevention of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in infants at risk of preterm birth, where it stimulates the production of lung surfactant.
