Overview

Bevacizumab (Mabscale) is a biosimilar version of the reference monoclonal antibody Avastin, developed by the Russian biotechnology company Mabscale, LLC. It is a recombinant humanized IgG1 monoclonal antibody that targets and neutralizes vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A). By binding to VEGF-A, the drug prevents its interaction with VEGFR-1 and VEGFR-2 receptors on endothelial cells, thereby inhibiting the signaling pathways that drive tumor angiogenesis, vessel permeability, and tumor growth. This biosimilar is currently being evaluated in a Phase III clinical trial (BEV-III/2022) as a first-line treatment for patients with advanced, unresectable, or metastatic non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), administered in combination with paclitaxel and carboplatin to demonstrate therapeutic equivalence to the originator product.
