Overview

This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of four agents—bevacizumab, cisplatin, docetaxel, and etoposide—used primarily in the treatment of unresectable stage III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Bevacizumab is a monoclonal antibody that inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), thereby blocking angiogenesis and reducing tumor blood supply. Cisplatin is a platinum-based chemotherapeutic agent that forms DNA crosslinks and induces apoptosis. Docetaxel is a taxane-class antineoplastic that stabilizes microtubules, inhibiting cell division. Etoposide inhibits topoisomerase II, leading to DNA strand breaks and apoptosis. This combination has been investigated in clinical trials for its efficacy and safety profile when used with or without concurrent radiotherapy in NSCLC patients[2][5][8]. The regimen aims to maximize cytotoxic effects on tumor cells through multiple mechanisms while also targeting the tumor vasculature.
