Overview

Bevacizumab + dexamethasone is a combination therapy consisting of two distinct pharmaceutical agents used primarily in ophthalmology. Bevacizumab is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody that inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), thereby reducing abnormal blood vessel growth and vascular permeability. Dexamethasone is a potent synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory and anti-edema properties, often delivered as an intravitreal implant for sustained release. The combination has been studied for synergistic effects in treating retinal diseases such as diabetic macular edema (DME) and retinal vein occlusion (RVO), where it can provide both rapid reduction of inflammation/edema and longer-term suppression of VEGF-driven pathology[1][3][7]. This dual approach aims to improve visual acuity, decrease macular thickness, and potentially extend the interval between treatments compared to monotherapy.
