Overview

bevacizumab + infliximab is a combination therapy consisting of two monoclonal antibodies: bevacizumab, which targets vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and infliximab, which targets tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α). This combination was investigated for the treatment of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) to evaluate the potential synergistic effects of inhibiting both angiogenesis and inflammation. In clinical feasibility studies, the combination demonstrated efficacy in reducing macular thickness and leakage in patients with choroidal neovascularization. However, significant safety concerns were identified, including the development of cataracts in all phakic eyes and instances of intraocular inflammation (vitritis). Consequently, the combination is not recommended for clinical practice in this indication due to these adverse reactions.
