Overview

Bevacizumab + interferon alfa is a **combination drug regimen** used primarily for the treatment of metastatic renal cell carcinoma. **Bevacizumab** is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody that inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), thereby preventing angiogenesis within tumors. **Interferon alfa** is an immunomodulatory cytokine that stimulates the immune system's response to cancer cells. Together, this combination improves progression-free survival but not overall survival in renal cell carcinoma, with increased toxicity compared to interferon alfa alone. Bevacizumab was developed by Genentech/Roche, and interferon alfa by Roche and other companies. This combination received FDA approval for metastatic renal cell carcinoma in 2009[1][2][3][4].
