Bevacizumab + mitoxantrone is an investigational combination therapy consisting of two distinct anticancer agents. Bevacizumab is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody that targets and inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), thereby blocking angiogenesis, the process by which tumors develop new blood vessels to sustain their growth. Mitoxantrone is a synthetic anthracenedione antineoplastic agent that intercalates into DNA, causing crosslinks and strand breaks, and inhibits topoisomerase II, leading to cytotoxicity in rapidly dividing cells. This combination has been studied for its potential synergistic effects in treating various cancers, including hematologic malignancies and ovarian cancer[1][3]. The rationale for combining these drugs lies in attacking tumor cells directly with mitoxantrone while simultaneously disrupting their blood supply with bevacizumab.
