Overview

This is a combination of four agents used in ophthalmology, primarily for retinal diseases: - **Bevacizumab** is a full-length monoclonal antibody that binds to and inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), thereby inhibiting angiogenesis. It is FDA-approved for several cancers and widely used off-label for ocular conditions such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vein occlusion[1][5][6]. - **Ranibizumab** is an antibody fragment (Fab) derived from the same parent mouse antibody as bevacizumab but designed specifically for intraocular use. It also binds VEGF-A, blocking its interaction with receptors on endothelial cells, thus inhibiting neovascularization and vascular permeability in the retina[5][6]. - **Aflibercept** is a recombinant fusion protein acting as a decoy receptor for VEGF-A, VEGF-B, and placental growth factor (PlGF). By binding these ligands with high affinity, it prevents their activation of native receptors involved in pathological angiogenesis[4][5][6]. - **Desamethazone** (likely referring to dexamethasone) is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory properties. In ophthalmology it reduces inflammation associated with retinal edema or other inflammatory eye diseases. The combination would theoretically provide broad inhibition of VEGF-driven neovascularization while also suppressing inflammation via corticosteroid action.
