Overview

Bevacizumab + rilotumumab is a combination therapy that was investigated for the treatment of recurrent malignant glioma. This combination works through dual inhibition of angiogenesis pathways. Bevacizumab is an antibody that targets vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), blocking the formation of new blood vessels that tumors need to grow. Rilotumumab is a human monoclonal antibody that blocks hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and its receptor c-Met, which plays a role in tumor angiogenesis and expression of angiogenic factors including VEGF. The combination was designed to synergistically inhibit tumor growth by blocking vascular invasion and tumor proliferation through these complementary mechanisms.
