Overview

Bevacizumab + triamcinolone is a combination therapy involving the intravitreal administration of two drugs—bevacizumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and triamcinolone acetonide, a synthetic corticosteroid. This combination is primarily used in ophthalmology for conditions characterized by macular edema and neovascularization, such as exudative age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic macular edema (DME), branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO), and radiation maculopathy. Bevacizumab inhibits VEGF to reduce vascular permeability and neovascularization, while triamcinolone provides anti-inflammatory effects that further decrease vascular leakage. The rationale for combining these agents lies in their complementary mechanisms—targeting both VEGF-mediated permeability and inflammation—to achieve synergistic anatomical and functional improvements in retinal diseases[1][2][5][7].
