Overview

This combination therapy consists of bevacizumab, a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody that inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and triamcinolone acetonide, a synthetic corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory and anti-angiogenic properties. The combination is administered via intravitreal injection to treat macular edema secondary to central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO). Bevacizumab works by binding to VEGF-A, preventing its interaction with receptors and thereby reducing vascular permeability and angiogenesis. Triamcinolone acetonide reduces inflammation and stabilizes the blood-retinal barrier. This specific combination was evaluated by the Hayatabad Medical Complex in a clinical trial to compare its efficacy against bevacizumab monotherapy.
