Overview

CBT124 is a biosimilar of bevacizumab developed by Cipla BioTec. It is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody that targets vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), thereby inhibiting angiogenesis—the formation of new blood vessels—which is critical for tumor growth and metastasis. Like the reference product Avastin, CBT124 binds to VEGF-A and prevents it from interacting with its receptors on the surface of endothelial cells, blocking the signaling pathways that promote blood vessel formation in tumors. The primary indication under investigation for CBT124 has been non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), specifically as first-line therapy in combination with carboplatin and paclitaxel for stage IV or metastatic disease. Clinical trials have compared its efficacy, safety, immunogenicity, and pharmacokinetics to EU-sourced Avastin[1][3][4][5].
