This is a combination of **bexagliflozin**, a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, and **rifampin** (also known as rifampicin), a broad-spectrum antibiotic primarily used for the treatment of tuberculosis and other bacterial infections. Bexagliflozin lowers blood glucose by blocking SGLT2 in the proximal tubules of the kidney, reducing glucose reabsorption and increasing urinary glucose excretion. Rifampin is a potent inducer of several cytochrome P450 enzymes and drug transporters; it inhibits bacterial DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, suppressing RNA synthesis and bacterial cell replication. When combined, rifampin may decrease blood levels and therapeutic effects of bexagliflozin due to increased metabolism via induction of hepatic enzymes, potentially resulting in reduced efficacy of bexagliflozin for glycemic control in type 2 diabetes[1][2][6].
