Overview

BI 113823 + ketoconazole is a combination of two drugs used in clinical pharmacology research to assess drug-drug interactions. BI 113823 is a potent and selective small molecule antagonist of the kinin B1 receptor, developed by Boehringer Ingelheim. It has demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects, reduction in organ injury, and improved survival in preclinical models of sepsis and post-myocardial infarction cardiac remodeling[1][6][8]. Ketoconazole is an oral antifungal agent that also acts as a strong inhibitor of cytochrome P450 enzymes (notably CYP3A4), often used in clinical studies to evaluate the impact of metabolic inhibition on investigational drugs[7]. The combination is primarily studied to determine how co-administration with ketoconazole affects the pharmacokinetics and safety profile of BI 113823 or similar compounds.
