Overview

Bicalutamide + goserelin is a combination therapy used primarily in the treatment of advanced and high-risk localized prostate cancer. Bicalutamide is a non-steroidal anti-androgen that blocks the action of androgens (male hormones) by binding to androgen receptors, thereby inhibiting the growth-promoting effects of testosterone on prostate cancer cells. Goserelin is a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist that suppresses pituitary secretion of luteinizing hormone, leading to decreased production of testosterone by the testes. The combination achieves maximal androgen blockade, reducing both circulating and intracellular androgen activity. This regimen can be used for cytoreduction before brachytherapy, in combination with radiotherapy for high-risk localized disease, or as palliative therapy in advanced cases[1][4][5]. Clinical studies have shown improved immune function and inflammatory response control with this combination compared to monotherapy[1]. The most common side effects are related to hormonal suppression.
