Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bifico is a triple-combination probiotic formulation containing live Bifidobacterium longum (specifically strain 6-1), Lactobacillus acidophilus, and Enterococcus faecalis. Developed by Shanghai Sine Pharmaceutical, it is approved in China as an over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription drug for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders associated with gut dysbiosis, including acute and chronic diarrhea, abdominal bloating, indigestion, and constipation. Bifico works by replenishing beneficial gut bacteria, producing lactic acid to create an acidic environment hostile to pathogens, and strengthening the intestinal mucosal barrier. In addition to its established gastrointestinal indications, Bifico is being investigated for its immunomodulatory and therapeutic potential in systemic sclerosis (SSc), Parkinson's disease, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), and postoperative depression in cancer patients.
