Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This multi-strain probiotic is a live biotherapeutic product (LBP) developed and evaluated by Seoul National University Hospital in collaboration with BIFIDO Co., Ltd. for the treatment of diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D). The formulation consists of four specific lyophilized bacterial strains: *Bifidobacterium bifidum* BGN4, *Bifidobacterium lactis* AD011, *Lactobacillus acidophilus* AD031, and *Lactobacillus casei* IBS041. Its mechanism of action involves the modulation of the gut microbiota, enhancement of the intestinal mucosal barrier, and the reduction of inflammation-related metabolites and pro-inflammatory cytokines. In a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial (NCT01637714), the administration of 40 billion colony-forming units (CFU) per day for eight weeks was shown to significantly improve abdominal pain and stool consistency in patients diagnosed according to Rome II criteria.
