bifidobacterium + bacillus licheniformis is a probiotic combination therapy being investigated for its potential to modulate the gut-brain axis in patients with Parkinson's disease. This microbial therapy consists of live *Bifidobacterium* species (such as *B. infantis* or *B. longum*) and *Bacillus licheniformis*. *Bifidobacterium* is a genus of anaerobic bacteria that helps maintain intestinal homeostasis and produces short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which have anti-inflammatory properties. *Bacillus licheniformis* is a spore-forming bacterium that consumes oxygen in the intestinal tract, creating an environment conducive to the growth of beneficial anaerobic flora. In the context of Parkinson's disease, this combination is primarily used to alleviate gastrointestinal symptoms like constipation and is being studied for its ability to reduce neuroinflammation and potentially slow disease progression by restoring gut microbiota balance. Clinical research led by Beijing Friendship Hospital and Capital Medical University has explored the efficacy of these probiotics in improving both motor and non-motor symptoms of the disease.
