Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bifidobacterium + lactobacillus combined with compound glutamine is an investigational combination therapy consisting of live probiotic bacteria and the amino acid glutamine. It is being evaluated in a Phase 2/3 clinical trial (NCT05406882) by West China Hospital for the prevention and treatment of radiation proctitis in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer undergoing neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy. The probiotic component (Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus) aims to restore and maintain a healthy gut microbiota balance, while the glutamine component supports the integrity and repair of the intestinal mucosal barrier, which is frequently damaged during pelvic radiation therapy.
