Bifidobacterium + Lactobacillus M8 is a probiotic combination product consisting of live bacterial strains from the *Bifidobacterium* and *Lactobacillus* genera. It is currently being investigated in clinical trials, specifically by Weihai Municipal Hospital of Shandong, for the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis (AS). The formulation, designated "M8," is intended to modulate the gut microbiota, which has been implicated in the pathogenesis of AS. Its proposed mechanism of action involves the regulation of systemic inflammatory responses, enhancement of the intestinal barrier function to prevent the translocation of pro-inflammatory factors, and competitive inhibition of pathogenic bacteria. As a live biotherapeutic product, it aims to restore microbial balance and mitigate the chronic inflammation characteristic of spondyloarthropathies.
