Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination product consisting of a **blend of Bifidobacterium strains** (typically including Bifidobacterium bifidum, Bifidobacterium breve, Bifidobacterium infantis, and/or Bifidobacterium longum) and **human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs)**, used primarily as a **synbiotic** to support infant gut health. The **bifidobacteria** act as probiotics, colonizing the infant gut and producing beneficial metabolites, while the **HMOs** are complex carbohydrates found naturally in human milk that serve as prebiotics, selectively promoting the growth and metabolic activity of bifidobacteria. This synbiotic combination can increase the abundance of beneficial bifidobacteria, stimulate production of key short-chain fatty acids such as acetate and lactate, improve gut barrier function, modulate immune responses, and may reduce the risk of necrotizing enterocolitis and other intestinal disorders in infants, especially those not breastfed. Commercial development focuses on inclusion in infant formulas or dietary supplements as a means to approximate some of the health benefits observed in breastfed infants[1][2][3][4].
