Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A three-strain probiotic mixture comprising human-residential bifidobacteria (HRB) strains: *Bifidobacterium breve* M-16V, *Bifidobacterium longum* subsp. *infantis* M-63, and *Bifidobacterium longum* subsp. *longum* BB536. Developed by Morinaga Milk Industry, this combination is specifically designed to colonize the infant gut and utilize human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). It is primarily investigated for the prevention of necrotising enterocolitis (NEC) and hospital-acquired infections in extremely preterm infants by promoting a bifidobacteria-predominant intestinal environment and excluding pathogenic bacteria like Enterobacteriaceae. The mixture also demonstrates clinical utility in pediatric conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, functional dyspepsia, and allergic rhinitis by modulating inflammatory responses and supporting intestinal barrier function.
