Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A synbiotic combination comprising the probiotic bacterium *Bifidobacterium lactis* (often classified as *Bifidobacterium animalis* subsp. *lactis*) and the prebiotic fiber inulin. This combination is designed to synergistically promote a healthy intestinal microbiome and enhance systemic immune responses. In clinical research, particularly in vulnerable populations such as infants with cyanotic congenital heart disease (CCHD), the enteral administration of this synbiotic has demonstrated efficacy in reducing the risk of nosocomial sepsis, necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), and overall mortality. The probiotic component, *B. lactis*, helps maintain gut barrier integrity and competes with pathogenic bacteria, while inulin provides a selective energy source for beneficial bifidobacteria.
