Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BIOUS-M is an oral fixed-dose combination therapy developed by Luckys Pharma Lab, containing the second-generation antihistamine bilastine (20 mg) and the leukotriene receptor antagonist montelukast (10 mg). Bilastine functions as a highly selective peripheral histamine H1 receptor antagonist, providing relief from allergic symptoms such as sneezing, rhinorrhea, and ocular itching without significant sedative effects. Montelukast acts by selectively inhibiting the cysteinyl leukotriene receptor 1 (CysLT1), thereby blocking the pro-inflammatory and bronchoconstrictive effects of leukotrienes in the airways. This combination is primarily utilized for the management of allergic rhinitis, particularly in patients who also suffer from comorbid asthma, offering a synergistic approach to controlling both upper and lower respiratory allergic manifestations.
