Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VISION5 (also known as the bimatoprost ocular insert or Helios) is a sustained-release drug delivery system developed by ForSight Vision5, which was acquired by Allergan (now AbbVie). The product consists of a non-invasive, flexible ring made of a silicone matrix containing bimatoprost, a prostaglandin F2α analog. The ring is placed in the conjunctival fornix of the eye by an ophthalmologist and is designed to provide continuous, preservative-free delivery of the medication over several months. This technology aims to reduce intraocular pressure in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension while addressing the common issue of poor adherence to daily topical eye drop regimens. Clinical development reached Phase 2, but the program appears to have been superseded by other sustained-release technologies like the Durysta intracameral implant.
