Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lumigan PF + latanoprost refers to the use or comparison of two prostaglandin analog ophthalmic solutions: preservative-free bimatoprost 0.03% (Lumigan PF) and benzalkonium chloride (BAK)-preserved latanoprost 0.005% (Xalatan). Both agents are indicated for the reduction of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. They function as agonists at the prostaglandin F (FP) receptor, which enhances the uveoscleral outflow of aqueous humor. In clinical research, specifically a study conducted by National Taiwan University Hospital, these two formulations were compared to evaluate the impact of the BAK preservative on ocular surface disease (OSD), testing the hypothesis that the preservative-free bimatoprost formulation causes less ocular surface damage than the preserved latanoprost formulation.
