Overview

Bimatoprost + timolol is a fixed-dose combination ophthalmic medication containing two active substances: bimatoprost, a prostaglandin analogue (specifically a prostamide), and timolol, a non-selective beta-blocker. It is primarily used as eye drops to reduce elevated intraocular pressure in adults with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension who are insufficiently responsive to topical beta-blockers or prostaglandin analogues alone. Bimatoprost increases the outflow of aqueous humor through the trabecular meshwork and uveoscleral pathway, while timolol decreases aqueous humor production by blocking beta adrenergic receptors in the ciliary body. The combination provides additive effects for lowering intraocular pressure and helps prevent optic nerve damage associated with glaucoma[1][2][5][8]. Developed by Allergan and AbbVie.
