Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Biomodulina T is a biological immunomodulator developed by the Centro Nacional de Biopreparados (BioCen) in Cuba. It is a bovine thymic extract composed of specific polypeptide fractions designed to restore and modulate immune function. The drug primarily acts by stimulating the production of T lymphocytes and enhancing the differentiation of lymphoblastoid cells within the thymus. In the context of pediatric septic shock, Biomodulina T is administered as an adjunctive treatment alongside conventional therapy to counteract immunoparalysis and restore immune homeostasis. Beyond septic shock, it is also utilized or investigated for conditions such as chronic kidney disease (stage 5, hemodialysis), recurrent respiratory infections in the elderly, and post-chemotherapy immunorestitution in oncology.
