Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bionica insulin (also referred to as Bionica pulse insulin) is a specialized therapeutic intervention involving the intravenous administration of regular human insulin via a proprietary pulsatile delivery system, such as the Bionica Micro-Pump. This approach, often termed Physiological Insulin Resensitization (PIR) or Metabolic Activation Therapy (MAT), is designed to mimic the natural, rhythmic secretion of insulin by the pancreas. By delivering insulin in high-concentration bursts followed by rest periods, the therapy aims to restore the sensitivity of insulin receptors and improve cellular glucose metabolism, which is typically assessed by measuring changes in the respiratory quotient (RQ). It is primarily utilized and investigated for the management of type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus, with a focus on improving metabolic control and potentially mitigating diabetic complications.
