Overview

A combination therapy of **biphasic human insulin** (an intermediate-acting and short-acting premixed human insulin formulation, typically 70/30) and **metformin** (a biguanide oral antihyperglycemic agent). Biphasic human insulin lowers blood glucose by promoting cellular uptake of glucose and suppressing hepatic glucose output, while metformin reduces hepatic gluconeogenesis, increases insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues, and decreases intestinal glucose absorption. This combination is primarily used for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in patients who are inadequately controlled on oral antidiabetic agents alone[1][2][3][6][9].
