biphasic insulin aspart 70 (Novo Nordisk)

Biphasic insulin aspart 70 (BIAsp 70) is a premixed insulin analog formulation developed by Novo Nordisk for the management of blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes mellitus. It consists of a mixture of 70% soluble insulin aspart, which provides a rapid onset of action to control postprandial glucose excursions, and 30% insulin aspart crystallized with protamine, which provides an intermediate-acting basal component. This specific ratio (70/30 rapid-to-intermediate) is designed to provide intensive prandial coverage. BIAsp 70 was part of the NovoMix product line (marketed as NovoMix 70), which also included BIAsp 30 and BIAsp 50. While BIAsp 30 became the standard of care in many regions, BIAsp 70 was primarily used in specific clinical scenarios requiring intensive mealtime coverage and was eventually withdrawn from several markets, including the European Union, for commercial reasons.
