bisoprolol + megestrol acetate is a combination therapy being investigated for the treatment of cancer cachexia. Bisoprolol is a selective beta-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist (beta-blocker) that helps preserve cardiac performance, while megestrol acetate is a synthetic progestin used to stimulate appetite and reduce body wasting. In preclinical rat models of cancer cachexia (Yoshida AH-130), the combination has shown significant improvements in survival, preservation of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), and maintenance of body composition and food intake. The combination approach aims to provide synergistic benefits by addressing both the cardiovascular and metabolic components of cachexia at reduced doses compared to monotherapy.
