Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The bivalent CYD-2,4 dengue vaccine is an experimental live attenuated vaccine candidate designed to induce immunity against two serotypes of the dengue virus—serotype 2 and serotype 4. It is based on the chimeric yellow fever-dengue (CYD) platform, where genes encoding structural proteins from the target dengue serotypes are inserted into a yellow fever 17D backbone. The primary mechanism of action is to stimulate neutralizing antibody responses against Dengue virus serotype 2 (DENV-2) and Dengue virus serotype 4 (DENV-4). This formulation was evaluated in clinical trials for immunogenicity and safety but did not show an advantage over tetravalent formulations in terms of immune response or protection. The developer behind this platform is Sanofi Pasteur[1].
