Overview
bivalent oral polio vaccine + oral cholera vaccine is a co-administration regimen consisting of a live-attenuated bivalent oral polio vaccine (bOPV) and a killed whole-cell oral cholera vaccine (OCV). This specific combination was evaluated in a Phase 3 clinical trial led by the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) to assess the safety and immunogenicity of simultaneous administration in children aged 1-3 years. The bOPV component typically contains Sabin strains of poliovirus types 1 and 3, while the OCV component (specifically the Shanchol brand) contains inactivated *Vibrio cholerae* serogroups O1 (Inaba and Ogawa) and O139. The regimen is designed to facilitate integrated public health interventions in regions where both cholera and poliomyelitis are endemic, optimizing resource utilization and improving vaccine coverage for both diseases.
