black ginseng (Kyoung Bang Pharmaceutical)

Black ginseng (Kyoung Bang Pharmaceutical) is a natural product-based health functional food ingredient currently under development by Kyoung Bang Pharmaceutical. Black ginseng is produced by repeatedly steaming and drying ginseng (Panax ginseng), a process that alters its chemical profile and increases the concentration of specific ginsenosides such as Rg3, Rk1, and Rg5. This R&D project focuses on the application of black ginseng for multiple health indications, including brain disease (neuroprotection), bone health (bone density support), intestinal disease (gastrointestinal health), and liver health. In the South Korean regulatory context, it is classified as a health functional food (건강기능식품), intended to provide physiological benefits and support health maintenance rather than acting as a conventional pharmaceutical drug.
