Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bleomycin + 5-fluorouracil is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of two antineoplastic agents, bleomycin and 5-fluorouracil. Bleomycin is a glycopeptide antibiotic with cytotoxic properties that induces DNA strand breaks through free radical formation, leading to inhibition of DNA synthesis and cell death. 5-Fluorouracil (also known as fluorouracil or 5-FU) is a pyrimidine analog that inhibits thymidylate synthase, disrupting DNA synthesis and repair in rapidly dividing cells. This combination has been investigated for synergistic effects in the treatment of various cancers, including head and neck squamous cell carcinoma and other solid tumors[6]. The regimen may be used alone or as part of multi-drug protocols.
