Bleomycin + dexamethasone is a combination therapy consisting of bleomycin, an antineoplastic glycopeptide antibiotic, and dexamethasone, a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid. Bleomycin acts primarily by inducing DNA strand breaks through free radical formation, leading to inhibition of DNA synthesis and cell death. It is widely used in the treatment of various malignancies and as a sclerosing agent for lymphangiomas. Dexamethasone exerts potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor, modulating gene expression to suppress pro-inflammatory cytokines and mediators. The combination has been studied particularly in pediatric lymphangioma sclerotherapy, where it has demonstrated improved response rates compared to bleomycin alone with a favorable safety profile[1].
