Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Blinatumomab SC1 refers to a specific subcutaneous formulation of blinatumomab, a first-in-class bispecific T-cell engager (BiTE) developed by Amgen. Blinatumomab is designed to treat B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) by simultaneously binding to CD19 on B-lineage cells and CD3 on T cells. This dual binding facilitates the formation of a cytolytic synapse, leading to the redirected lysis of malignant B cells by the patient's own T cells. While the standard intravenous formulation (Blincyto) requires a continuous 28-day infusion via a portable pump, the SC1 formulation is being developed to provide a more convenient subcutaneous administration route, potentially reducing the treatment burden and improving patient quality of life. It is currently being evaluated in clinical trials for both relapsed/refractory and minimal residual disease (MRD) positive B-ALL.
