Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BLR350 is a peritoneal dialysis fluid (PDF) developed by Baxter Limited for the treatment of patients with chronic renal failure undergoing continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD). It is designed as a two-chamber bag system that separates the glucose osmotic agent from the mixed bicarbonate and lactate buffer during storage and sterilization. This separation, maintained at a low pH, minimizes the formation of glucose degradation products (GDPs). Upon mixing the chambers prior to administration, the solution reaches a neutral or near-neutral pH. In Phase III clinical trials conducted in Japan, BLR350 demonstrated non-inferiority to standard dialysis fluids (such as Dianeal PD-2) in peritoneal creatinine clearance and ultrafiltration volume, while effectively managing metabolic acidosis.
