The combination was part of direct-acting antiviral (DAA) regimens aiming for interferon-free HCV therapy. Development was discontinued in phase II due to serious safety concerns, specifically related to BMS-986094’s unexpected heart and kidney toxicities, including cardiomyopathy and heart failure. The regimen never reached advanced stages of clinical development due to these adverse events[1][2][4][5].
