BMS-986458 is an investigational small molecule dual inhibitor of fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH) and monoacylglycerol lipase (MGLL). Developed by Bristol Myers Squibb, it is designed to increase the levels of endogenous cannabinoids, such as anandamide and 2-arachidonoylglycerol, by inhibiting the enzymes responsible for their degradation. This elevation of endocannabinoids is hypothesized to provide therapeutic benefits by modulating neurotransmission and reducing neuroinflammation. The drug is currently being evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials for the treatment of agitation associated with Alzheimer's disease and spasticity in patients with multiple sclerosis.
